Empowering Global Citizenship: A Workshop on Digital Transformation and Inclusion for Sustainable Development
this hybrid workshop explored the themes of digital transformation and inclusivity, providing a platform for experts and youths across the globe to exchange ideas, foster innovation, and contribute to more inclusive digital futures.
About the session:
Digital innovation is transforming governance, business, and daily life across the Asia-Pacific, driving economic growth and sustainable development. As smart cities and digital finance expand, rising urbanization is boosting demand for technology-driven solutions that enhance public services and address environmental challenges. However, the digital divide—rooted in infrastructure gaps, affordability, and digital literacy—still limits access, especially for underserved communities.
Addressing this requires inclusive efforts, with youth playing a vital role. Youth-led MSMEs, which make up over 90% of businesses and 70% of jobs in the region, can advance digital trade, economic inclusion, and sustainability. Through policy dialogues and capacity-building, young people offer fresh solutions for job creation, digital security, and participation in global value chains, including AI.
As part of the APRU SDG Education for Global Citizenship (APRU SDG4GC) 2025 program, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)’s Subregional Office for Southeast Asia, in collaboration with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and Chulalongkorn University, is hosting a workshop on the digital transformation and inclusivity, by providing a platform for experts and youth across the globe to exchange ideas, foster innovation, and contribute to more inclusive digital futures.
