Ethics of Community-Engaged Research“SDG and PBL Synergy: Understanding Poverty, Health & Inequality through Action”
This interactive session is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the interrelated nature of key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Participants will be introduced to the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, encouraging them to analyse complex, real-world issues through a collaborative and inquiry-driven lens.
Using a systems thinking framework, the session will highlight how poverty, food insecurity, health disparities, and inequality are not isolated problems but part of a larger, interconnected system. Students will explore how efforts in one area, such as improving nutrition or access to healthcare, can influence outcomes in others, and why integrated, inclusive strategies are necessary to drive sustainable change.
By the end of the session, students will gain practical insight into systems-level thinking, develop their problem-solving and reflect on their role as global citizens in addressing inequality. This session is ideal for those eager to move beyond surface-level understanding and actively engage in co-creating solutions that are both equitable and sustainable.
