Civic Engagement in Practice: Youth Urban Governance
This session will share results from the collaborative action-research between University College London (UCL), Kota Kita Foundation Indonesia, Catalytic Action in Lebanon supported by the Fondation Botnar. The research itself took place in Solo and Denpasar in Indonesia, and Bar Elias and El Mina in Lebanon. For this presentation and contextualize with ASEAN context, we will only present findings from Indonesia and discuss further with the students in broader context. The research has documented different patterns of young people’s participation in urban governance in four cities across Indonesia and Lebanon, the forms it takes, its focus, and barriers and supportive factors. The project results will be then followed up with co-designing digital platform working with diverse young urban activists and local governments in the four cities to design and trial contextually relevant digital platforms for young people to bring their voice and ideas on the urban issues that are a priority for them.
