Dr. Wang Qian

Dr. Wang is a lecturer (tenure-track) in the School of Public Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Dr. Wang earned her masters and doctorate degrees from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Her research focuses on psychosocial development and health behaviors in adolescents and young adults. More specifically, she is interested in understanding factors that influence young people’s behaviors related to substance use (i.e. tobacco, alcohol, and other substance use), problematic screen use (i.e. internet use, gaming, social media use), and physical activity, and in how personal (i.e. mental health), familial, and social factors would influence the initiation, development, and prevention of these risk behaviors.
Dr. Wang has published more than ten first-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals. She serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals in the field, such as Computers in Human Behavior, and International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction. Courses that she currently teaches include Preventive Medicine, Health Education and Promotion, and Drug Use Prevention.
Recently, Dr. Wang mentored the winning team of the social innovation pitching competition in the 2022-2023 Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Education for Global Citizenship.
