Dr. Fong Chng Saun

Dr. Fong Chng Saun is a senior lecturer at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Universiti Malaya, where he also completed his PhD in Environmental Science, specializing in Urban Ecosystem Management. His research focuses on urban ecosystem management, particularly the urban heat island effect in tropical cities, air pollution monitoring, and sustainable development.
His research interest in future cities involves promoting sustainable and livable urban environments that meet the needs of a growing urban population while minimizing their impact on the environment. The goal is to create sustainable, livable, and thriving urban communities that prioritize the use of innovative technologies and strategies to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste production, while improving the quality of life for residents.
Dr. Fong coordinates the Universiti Malaya Planetary Health program and collaborates with various organizations to advance urban sustainability and well-being. He is also involved with the Universiti Malaya Sustainable Development Center and the UM Climate Change Advisory Panel for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia (NRES). In 2023, he joins as an affiliate of the Young Scientist Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM).
