Dr. Terence Yuen
- Research Associate, Centre for Social Innovation Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Founder and Executive Director, Social Value Hong Kong
Dr. Yuen is a multi-disciplinary researcher-cum-practitioner working to advance the fields of social & solidarity economy, commons & commoning, social value accounting, impact measurement and management, and impact verification. He also specializes in the study of philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, platform cooperativism, and institutional design for third-party government.
Dr. Yuen obtained a Master of Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Politics and Public Administration, with both degrees awarded by the University of Hong Kong. He started his career as a professional accountant and thereafter a grant manager at The Community Chest of Hong Kong, one of the leading philanthropic institutions in the Special Administrative Region.
In searching for a better way to help build a stronger civil society in Hong Kong, he returned to the academia and since then has been involving in numerous research, training, and consultancy projects in areas including social policy and administration, nonprofit management, community philanthropy, social impact assessment, and social entrepreneurship.
In 2014, he founded the Hong Kong Institute of Social Impact Analysts (currently renamed to Social Value Hong Kong) – a joint member network of Social Value International and a global movement to advance the field of impact measurement and management, with an aim to change the way our societies account for value.
