Dr. Qian Wang

Dr. Wang is a lecturer (tenure-track) in the School of Public Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Dr. Wang earned her masters and doctorate degrees from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on psychosocial development and health behaviors in adolescents and young adults. More specifically, she is interested in understanding factors that influence young people’s behaviors related to substance use (i.e. tobacco, alcohol, and other substance use), problematic screen use (i.e. internet use, gaming, social media use), and physical activity, and in how personal (i.e. mental health), familial, and social factors would influence the initiation, development, and prevention of these risk behaviors.

Dr. Wang has published 14 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 11 of which were first-authored. She also serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals in the field, such as Computers in Human Behavior, and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. Courses that she currently teaches include Introduction to Preventive Medicine, Theories in Health Education, and Introduction to substance misuse.
