Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wasana Wongsurawat

Wasana Wongsurawat is an associate professor at the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Currently, she is also serving as the department’s chairperson. Dr. Wongsurawat attained her doctoral degree in Chinese history from the University of Oxford in 2007. Her areas of interests include the history of the Chinese diaspora, transnational Chinese history, global China, and the history of Chinese-Thai relations. Her first monograph titled, The Crown and the Capitalists: The Ethnic Chinese and the Founding of the Thai Nation was published with the University of Washington Press in 2019. She has edited and co-edited several collections, such as, Dynamics of the Cold War in Asia: Ideology, Identity, and Culture (Palgrave 2009) and Sites of Modernity: Asian Cities in the Transitory Moments of Trade, Colonialism, and Nationalism (Springer 2016). Most recently she was the guest editor for Manusya: Journal of Humanities special issue 26 (2023) titled, “Revisiting Pan-Asianism in the Decolonization of the Indo-Pacific: Inspiration, Order, and Democractization.”
